Narkanda is one of India’s oldest skiing destinations, offering thrilling slopes for beginners and seasoned skiers alike. During winter, the town transforms into a snowy wonderland, attracting skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) organizes skiing courses, making it a perfect winter retreat. Apart from skiing, the region offers snow treks, bonfire experiences, and camping under starlit skies. The town’s natural beauty is equally enchanting in summer, making it a year-round travel destination.
The highlight of Narkanda is the Hatu Peak trek, a 7 km trail through dense deodar forests leading to the Hatu Mata Temple at an altitude of 3,400 meters. The summit offers panoramic views of the Himalayan range, stretching across snow-capped peaks and deep valleys. The temple, dedicated to Hatu Mata (an incarnation of Goddess Kali), has a unique wooden structure with intricate carvings. The trek is moderate yet rewarding, making it a favorite among adventure lovers.
Narkanda is part of Himachal’s apple belt, known for its lush orchards producing some of India’s finest apples. Visitors can explore organic farms, enjoy fresh apple cider, and experience traditional Himachali hospitality. Tannu Jubbar Lake, a serene oval-shaped lake surrounded by cedar forests, offers a peaceful escape for picnics and photography. The town’s rustic charm, traditional wooden houses, and Himachali cuisine (like Siddu and Chha Gosht) make it a cultural delight.
