Nestled in Budgam district, just 42 km from Srinagar, Doodhpathri is a breathtaking valley filled with lush green meadows, dense pine forests, and glacial streams. The valley gets its name from the milky white water of the Shaliganga River, which originates from the Ashtaar Glacier. The landscape is reminiscent of Swiss alpine meadows, with its rolling green fields dotted with wildflowers. Unlike commercialized tourist spots, Doodhpathri remains untouched and peaceful, offering a raw and pristine experience of Kashmir’s natural beauty. Though mainly a serene retreat, Doodhpathri also offers light adventure activities. Visitors can enjoy horse riding across the meadows, short treks to the nearby hills, and streamside picnics. During winter, the valley is covered in a thick blanket of snow, making it an emerging hub for snow trekking and sledging. The best time to visit Doodhpathri is from April to September, when the valley is lush green and filled with wildflowers. However, winter travelers can also visit from December to February to witness the snow-covered paradise. The valley is well connected via Srinagar, and a day trip is enough to explore its beauty. Nearby attractions include Tosamaidan, another untouched meadow with breathtaking landscapes, and Yusmarg, known for its pine-covered hills and gushing streams. The journey to Doodhpathri itself is an experience, passing through dense forests and quaint villages, making it a perfect getaway from city life.
